How to Play UNO

UNO is a shedding game. Each player starts with seven cards. On your turn you play one card that matches the discard pile by color or by symbol — or you play a Wild. The first player to play their last card wins the round.

Setup

Use the standard 108-card deck. Shuffle. Deal seven cards to each player. Flip the next card to start the discard pile. On Duetly, play UNO online and the server deals for you. Two to four people can sit at the same table.

A turn

If you have a legal card, play it. If you do not, draw one card from the deck. If that drawn card is legal, you may play it immediately or keep it and pass. If it is not legal, your turn ends.

What matches

• Same color as the current color.
• Same number, or the same action symbol (Skip on Skip, Reverse on Reverse, Draw Two on Draw Two).
• Any Wild, including Wild Draw Four when the restriction is met.

Special cards

• Skip: the next player loses their turn.
• Reverse: play changes direction. With two players it acts like Skip — you play again.
• Draw Two: the next player draws two cards and is skipped.
• Wild: you choose the new color, then play continues.
• Wild Draw Four: you choose the color. The next player draws four and is skipped. You may play it only if you have no card of the current color.

Saying UNO

When you go down to one card, you must declare UNO. On Duetly, tap the UNO button as you play your second-to-last card, or immediately after. If you forget, another player can call you out and you draw two cards.

Winning

Empty your hand and the round is over. Action cards still resolve: going out with a Draw Two still makes the next player draw. Then start a new round from the lobby, or rematch if everyone still wants to play.
