Rock Paper Scissors Strategy

If both players pick uniformly at random, nobody has an edge. Humans do not pick uniformly at random. Strategy against people is mostly: notice their habits, hide yours.

The Nash line, then reality

Game theory's advice is one-third each. That is also what Duetly's computer opponent does. Against that opponent, no 'system' works. Against a friend, systems work because friends repeat themselves.

Patterns worth watching

• Many people open with rock.
• After a loss, some players copy what just beat them.
• After a win, some players repeat the winning throw.
• Long matches make people 'cycle' rock-paper-scissors in order.

A simple counter-plan

Do not open on autopilot. Do not throw the same symbol three times unless you are baiting. If you notice they never play scissors, play paper less. None of this beats a true random player. All of it beats a tired sibling. Pair it with psychology notes and a live match.
